Here’s something I didn’t know until today:
If a dog eats something with xylitol in it, aka orbit gum or most sugar free gums, it can kill the dog.
2 pieces can kill a small dog. But 10 can kill any size. It forces the dog into hypoglycemic shock and if that doesn’t kill, liver toxicity will within 24 hours.
Found this out today when Kyle left zoey in the car while he got some coffee (not more than 2 min) and she ate more than half a pack of orbit. Luckily, he checked on his phone if it was toxic and ran her to a vet immediately where they induced vomiting with peroxide. Now I’m clost monitoring her and feeding her corn syrup every hour to make sure her blood sugar doesn’t dip. Yikes.
